Free Snow Cone!

I just know i'll get a free snow cone at the end of the race. I'll be out there, awww, free snow cone. "Jannette, how far have you gone?" "FREE SNOW CONE! Free snow cone at the end of the race!" If I run they're gonna give me a free snow cone. Even if I run half the race i'll get a... I won't get a half snow cone, i'll still get the whole snow cone. People that run the whole race get a whole snow cone, and the people that run half the race get a whole snow cone. So it's always a whole, always a whole snow cone. Sooo i'd rather run the whole race. I'd rather do the whole. Still get the whole snow cone...

If you don't understand ^this^ reference... PLEASE watch this little Brian Regan bit:

Now just replace "snow cone" with "free t-shirt" and "finisher's medal" and this is about how i'm feeling right now about the fact that I just signed up for my second real marathon yesterday. In this moment i've lost my perspective on how much I love running and what a major accomplishment it is for me to push my body to these extreme limits and how completely rewarding of an experience it is for me. In this moment i'm not sure i'm going to survive this race with all it's miles and miles of hills. In this moment i'm feeling a little bit like i've lost my mind. In this moment, I don't know why i'm going out there to do this, except that I get a free snow cone t-shirt and finisher's medal at the end of the race. And I get to run it with my girl Mallory and she is going to keep me going even when i'd rather sit down and pick flowers in the outfield eat ice cream on the side of the road.

Meanwhile... this happened today.

Obviously still in denial that the real hard core training has to start like yesterday.

It's That Sister Thing

You know you're sisters slash best friends when you discover through snapchat that despite being over a thousand miles apart, you're both wearing red JHS soccer sweatshirts at the same time on the same day.
Which are actually both mine, you little sweatshirt snatcher.
It's just that sister thing.

This Week's Internet Entertainment

Sometimes, the internet bores the heck out of me. Facebook is so full of junk all the time its ridiculous. I don't do twitter. I definitely go through Pinterest phases. I never have enough money to do all the shopping I want to do on Amazon. I am always way too caught up on all my favorite blogs, and there's only so much blogging I myself can do. I'm usually not one with enough patience to just surf the web and find great random things. However, because of junky facebook and and other lucky finds, sometimes I get some dang good entertainment from the internet. Videos that make me laugh, pictures that leave me in awe, and stories that really make me think. Anyway, I could continue rambling on, but instead I thought i'd just share some of the internet goodness that i've seen going around this week.

These pictures that a Russian mother takes of her children. They are incredible. I pretty much couldn't stop myself from downloading... well, all of them.

It took me a few days of seeing this link hop around of facebook before I finally caved and read it. If you're not too offended by a bit of potty humor... this is totally worth a few minutes. It's amazing the writing that flows from people when they're discussing the state of their own bowels.

Lets just go ahead and agree that all the Seahawks hype going on everywhere is pretty freaking exciting and awesome and cool and I am so pumped and every time I think about the game this weekend my blood pressure spikes a bit. I may or may not have told my home teachers they can't come on Sunday because i'll be on a date with a big TV and the 'Hawks. Priorities people, priorities.

Because he's deaf and super legit and has a SA-WEET commercial. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/01/14/the-viral-nfl-ad-that-literally-gave-us-goosebumps/

I read this entire article the other day and was blown away by the faith and courage of this woman. It wasn't until the very end that I realized the author of this true story is the daughter of one of my favorite nursing professors, the one who took us to Tonga. I am so grateful for my life and while I hope I never have to face the challenges she did, I hope I can follow her example of faith, endurance, optimism, and inspiring strength!

So I talk about it enough that y'all know that one of my most favorite people in the whole world is half a world away from me right now. But she's being a pretty cool missionary so its all okay. Her letters are my favorite to read. They are either making me laugh or inspiring me to be a better person. Anyway, she made my day with these yesterday:

Okay, last thing. No offense to all you recently married people, but I think Barbie had a better wedding photographer than you did. Enjoy.

I lied. One more thing.

Soaked at Snoqualmie Falls

One day a few weeks ago when we were both home for the holidays, Jules and I decided we both needed to get out of the house and do something outdoorsy. Snoqualmie falls is pretty close, its beautiful, and it was the perfect thing for us to do that day.

If you would please ignore the fact that I was a pose-less gray blob of a person this day while Julia was (as usual) a beautiful splash of color.

Panoramaaaa

Still awesome even on a very wet rainy Washington day!

So there is a hike down to the lower lookout to see the waterfall. But the view wasn't quite satisfying enough for these chicas. What did we do? We (with some convincing from Jules) climbed over the fence, down the hill, and then scrambled over the rocks to get as close to the waterfall as possible. With the rain and the splash from the falls, the word "soaked" is an understatement for how wet we were!
TOTALLY WORTH IT.

Maybe someday she and I will live in the same place again and we can go adventuring all the time.
What a dream that would be!

Missing home and the PNW today.
So blessed to have my roots in such a wonderful place.

Heads Up Sports-Camp-Counselor/Frisbee-Champ Style

All you extra lucky kool kats/sports camp counselors/ultimate frisbee CHAMPS (heh heh), this is for you. It was an honor to be reunited to play Heads Up and Catch Phrase with you all this weekend. Not to mention the dancing in the kitchen, cheetah blankets, weirdly entertaining ceiling fan, and adorable mini ping pong paddles. Let us have more fun like this soon, yes?

Okay but next time, we are taking real pictures.
