Reunions, Heads Up, And Night Hiking

Last Sunday I was reunited with some of my best friends ever. Some I hadn't seen in two years. But after the initial big hugs and excited chatter and catching up, it was as if no time at all had passed. These people made high school a bearable place for me, and i'll forever love them for it!
We had less than three days together before I peaced out to Texas (guys its hot here), and so we made the most of our time!

I have the best friends ever because no matter what, we can be ourselves and never feel too dumb for it... well, usually at least. Ellen Degeneres (my favorite person ever) has an app. It is a game called Heads Up. Kind of like catch phrase, but way better. The person guessing holds the phone with the clue on their forehead so everyone else can see it, and then depending on if they guess it correctly or need to pass, they tip the phone a certain way. Turns out its hilarious. You never know what people will do when put on the spot and/or under pressure. But thank goodness the game video records everything as you play, because shoot these are funny moments that we'll always want to remember.

I call this one: Dingo baby.

I call this one: Julia has clearly never watched Kids Say The Darndest Things.

Monday night was the peak of the annual Perseid meteor shower. Being the adventurers that we are, we decided not to settle for viewing the heavens from our backyards where the sky would be muted by city lights. Instead we caravanned out to our old favorite hiking destination from high school: Rattlesnake Ridge. We've got so many good memories there: Kevin asking me to prom, Jules almost head-butting Cam right off a cliff, and perfect summer days and nights spent with friends in the gorgeous pacific northwest.
This was my first ever night hike, and boy i'll tell ya what, I sure do feel spiffy wearing a headlamp! It was creepy and fun and difficult and exhilarating all at the same time. We kept our safe distance from the ledge, laid out blankets, did our best to comfortably situate ourselves laying down on the very sharp uneven rocks (eachother's bellies became our pillows), busted out the snap peas, and looked heavenward. When we first arrived there was one little tiny patch of clear sky to focus on. By the time we left, there wasn't a cloud in sight and it turned out to to be the perfect night for meteor watching. Ah! So fun!

I quickly discovered selfies are impossible when wearing a headlamp...

Obviously, I tried anyway. And now no matter what editing I do I just end up with super creepy pictures of myself in the scary dark with my spiffy headlamp.

The Dude's Married

My stud cousin got married last weekend.
He and I have been buds for a long time, so it was kind of a big deal haha.
I always wanted him to marry one of my best friends, but i'll forgive Josie for stealing him off the market instead :)

It was an absolutely gorgeous wedding day. Family and friends swarmed everywhere to celebrate these two people who we love so much.
The outdoor reception was stunning out on Josie's family farm. I didn't take enough pictures to help you appreciate it. But picture this: a big rusty old truck with Taylor and Josie's names written in chalk on the driver's side door. A canoe filled with ice that held all the soda bottles that displayed pictures of the happy couple. A brand spankin' new back deck covered in lights and dancing people. Men in aprons serving ice cream with a homemade fresh blackberry drizzle. Horses grazing in the neighboring field. I could go on. It was all incredible!

I love this kid to death and I am so excited for him and Josie and their new life together.

Enjoying the reception, and of course these pictures show almost nothing of what I made you picture in your mind above. Woopsie.

My children will be so grateful that cameras existed "way back when" (I can picture the next generation now: "What the heck is a CD player!?") their mother was a preteen so that they can witness my awkward stages... which are guaranteed to give them an immediate self esteem boost. Oi. Thank goodness for growing up! :)

All In A Day At Whidbey Island

Deception Pass. Four beaches. Two hikes. Ferry ride. Ivar's dinner. Ice cream dessert.
All in a day's work.
Throw in long car rides, skipping rocks, handfuls of swedish fish and jelly beans, driftwood forts, hyper little girls and baby's first ice cream... and you've got the summary of a dang good day.
One day when Kirstin and Ty were still here we decided to tackle Deception Pass and Whidbey Island. Such beautiful places with so much to do, and we were determined to do it all! Which led to our beach hopping and hiking. It was fantastic. Extremely draining, but perfect.
It was one of those days where everyone climbs into the car to drive home way past bedtime, they're filthy, dead tired, falling asleep all over each other, and happy to be alive because they've just had an incredibly happy and summery day with great family and friends. Do you know what I mean? Its a very nostalgic thing for me, that end-of-a-great-summer-day feeling.

Deception pass. This is the bridge we walked out onto to take in our... er... "view."

It was creeeeepy to look down into thick white fog instead of down into the gorgeous blue water.

We hiked down to the beach underneath the bridge, and the girls set to work on their rock collecting. Very serious business, don't ya know.

 FAMILY LOVE! :)

We love our nieces :)

Even when we have to see things like this:

I especially love this picture of Kev. I didn't even mean to press the capture button on this one, but I love how real his smile and happiness is here!

Mom and dad with all but one of their grandkids! Missin' you Amelia!

BEACH FUN

We set off to hike on a cliff along one of the beaches. Getting up into and through the fog was pretty cool.

This picture is a priceless treasure. Too good.

So, Kirstin might be a teensy bit afraid of heights. And we were quite close to the edge of a pretty steep drop off that went a looong way down to the beach. Big sister couldn't quite handle the dizzying effect, so she gifted us with this hilarious experience.

We hopped on the ferry to shortcut back home, and ended the day in the absolute perfect way: takeout Ivars dinner to eat on the beach while the sun set. Ahhhh. Seriously, can't be beat!

For dessert we gave baby Anya her first taste of ice cream... I think she likes it! :)

... I think they do too.

I LOVE WASHINGTON.

The Next Pablo Picasso

Visiting in my home ward relief society today, I stole my mom's ipad from her and, in the attempt to come off as that irresponsible, inattentive college student that I am, searched through her apps and pictures and whatnot to see what entertainment I could find.
After doodling my initials about a million times (because yes, I am still a 3rd grader at heart who loves to practice and perfect my own signature), I found the beautiful pictures featured below. Considering i'm not sure my mom even knows how to use her Doodle app, I figured these masterpieces weren't hers to claim. I'm pretty sure these originated from my nieces and nephew begging to use their gramma's ipad every time it makes an appearance.
And oh, what incredible artists they are! I'm not going to lie, I laughed... a lot. At one point, probably too much. Probably enough that I was a bit of a distraction to the teacher since I was sitting in the front row and wiping my giggle-fit tears away. Do you think I was able to smoothly make those look like touched-by-the-lesson-tears? Hmm, not sure about that one.
Darn irresponsible, inattentive college student.

Well, at least he doesn't have too far to go after that failed fire dance...

Who doesn't love puppies in the desert?

SO.ORIGINAL.

You know how some things just seem way funnier than they should be?
Maybe it was just an in-the-moment/you-had-to-be-there kind of thing.
But this is the one that really got me going. It's so... outside the box, you know what I mean?
:)

Okay so then I saw this one.
Definitely not done by one of the little people.
Definitely one of my father's creations.
Dad is majorly creatively talented.
It doesn't matter if its on a restaurant napkin, the corner of a newspaper, a computer, or an ipad.
He got the skills.
I inherited my love of drawing trees from him. So random. But he is SO much better at it!

Canoeing Time

Ladies and gentlemen.
It is canoeing time.
Brayden's face should tell you how serious we were about this adventure.

Lunchtime with Husky Stadium in the background.
